The Q4 2025 Impact Report brings together the work carried out across Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Kenya in the final months of the year — improving the efficiency and scale of conservation monitoring, and strengthening how we understand change across the landscape over time.

Our Female Ranger team continues to grow, marking another important step in strengthening inclusive conservation leadership across our teams, while deepening community stewardship of key ecosystems in ways that feel relevant and accessible to the next generation.

In this quarter alone:
• 145 snares and 9 illegal fishing nets were confiscated
• 4 new Female Rangers joined our expanding programme
• 3 conservation education camps hosted 295 school children across three countries
• 454 youth engaged in the Conservation Goals initiative
• 100 solar systems installed in Botswana by the Solar Mamas, reaching 1,000 total
• 40 new farmers onboarded for poultry farming in Kenya
• 2 community homes built with upcycled glass through the Sustainable Housing Initiative
• 4 Big Cats Initiative grants awarded, including a new partner in South Sudan supporting human-lion coexistence

It reflects what is possible when people and nature are supported together, over time.

Her Voice Of Impact | #WomensMonth
As we close this series for Women’s Month, Lead Solar Mama, Olebogeng Samaemo, shares her transformative journey.

In Seronga village in northern Botswana, evenings used to come with many limits.
For Olebogeng, it meant her children could not study once the sun went down, amongst other challenges.

Today, she is part of a group of women changing that reality.
As the Lead Solar Mama, Olebogeng works across her community installing solar systems in homes that are off the grid, bringing light into spaces where it is needed most.

Over time, the changes are felt in everyday ways.
Women are earning and supporting their families.
Children are able to learn in the evenings.
Homes are safer.

“Now there is self-independence… women can take part in economic development...I feel honoured by Great Plains Foundation, the Seronga community, my fellow Solar Mamas and women at large." - Olebogeng.

Lebo’s inspiring story reflects what becomes possible when women take on the opportunity to equip themselves with skills and are trusted to lead within their communities.

Her Voice of Impact: “Empowering a woman is empowering a society.” Maggy Ntika, Naboisho Women's Group, Kenya.

In the Maasai Mara of Kenya, the Naboisho Women’s Group is building diverse opportunities through traditional craftsmanship, collaboration, and eco-friendly enterprises.

Supported by the Great Plains Foundation, the group now includes 175 women producing traditional beadwork, harvesting honey, and making eco-friendly soap.

At the heart of the group is Maggy Ntika, Production Manager at the Naboisho Women’s Craft Centre.

“The women now are able to support themselves… paying school fees for their kids, buying homestead needs, and even building better houses,” Maggy shares.

For Maggy, she highlights that women’s empowerment means dignity and self-reliance.

Her Voice of Impact: Rumbidzai #WomensMonth

Rumbidzai spends her days in the field monitoring wildlife, tracking animal movements, and observing the ecosystems she works to protect as part of the Great Plains Foundation Female Ranger Programme in Zimbabwe.

Alongside her work as a Ranger, she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Sustainable Technology and Livelihoods, her studies focus on the connection between biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, and the well-being of local communities. This holistic perspective recognises that resilient ecosystems and resilient communities go hand in hand.

Accessing opportunities in conservation has not always been straightforward. Like many young professionals passionate about this field, they encounter hurdles when trying to break into the sector they love. 🌍 Her message to young women who hope to follow a similar path: "Your voice matters. Be resilient. Keep shining and keep pushing. One day, you will make it."

This International Women’s Month, we celebrate all women Rangers whose dedication and perspective strengthen conservation across Africa.

Across Botswana, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, women are building skills, livelihoods, and leadership in ways that strengthen both communities and the landscapes they live alongside.

From installing solar lighting in rural villages, to creating sustainable income through craft enterprises, to protecting wildlife as Rangers. The women in these programmes serve as role models, actively engaging in creating and implementing practical solutions on the ground.

This International Women’s Day, we are highlighting three of our women's empowerment initiatives:
