”My passion is big cats, and originally my legacy to Big Cats Initiative was with National Geographic. When I came to revise my will, I discovered that it had been transferred to Great Plains Foundation, and when I found that their work extended to other things that I’m passionate about (since returning a changed person from a visit to Kenya, which stole my heart) it was a perfect fit.

”Great Plains Foundation is a part of our legacy planning, as well as annual projects and donations. The Joubert's, with their lifetime of wildlife experience in Africa and their immense dedication to wildlife conservation are the reasons why Great Plains is at the top of my list. What they do includes converting hunting lands to safari camps to save wildlife and create local jobs; acquiring adjacent properties to expand wildlife corridors; re-wilding depleted areas with wildlife from areas at high risk; education and training of local and villagers to the benefits and wisdom of conservation; and helping the poor to avoid them becoming poachers out of desperation. They truly understand that people and wildlife have to coexist to make it all work. Great Plains is a highly effective and focused conservation team, and we have had the great privilege and pleasure to participate on the ground in some of their projects- life changing experiences! We believe that there is no better way to do good in the world of Africa wildlife conservation.

”My husband and I took our first photo safari trip to Africa in 1996 and have returned to a number of countries eight times since then. We had an unforgettable experience at a Great Plains camp, where we spent one entire day following a large herd of buffalo and seven lionesses on a successful hunt. For many years, I have enjoyed receiving their weekly emails, and have continued to be impressed by the commitment and passion of Great Plains for wildlife, conservation in general, and the people of Africa. We have decided to include Great Plains as one recipient in our estate planning, knowing that they will make good use of our resources.

”I always admired Great Plains, their camps, and their foundation work...and Beverly and Dereck's Joubert's passionate work and commitment. But Project Ranger, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, solidified my desire to become more involved. I am proud to have a bequest to Great Plains Foundation in my will because I am confident the money will be used wisely.... for wildlife conservation and communities.
