Through education, training, and entrepreneurialism the Great Plains Foundation is changing lives
in rural Botswana. The Solar Mama’s initiative is building a workforce of female entrepreneurs
focused on clean energy and community empowerment.

Day 3: Name a Newborn
Rhinos Without Borders has made great strides in rebuilding the wild rhino population in Botswana.
The testament to its success are the 40+ calves born to the project. These precious “next
generation” rhinos are the lasting legacy of the project and the future hope for the species.

Like those it supports, Project Ranger sprang into action in 2020 as an emergency response to
the effects of COVID on conservation funding in Africa. Through the generosity of supporters
around the globe, Project Ranger is funding front-line conservation personnel. This critical project
protects not just the wilderness, but the livelihoods of the brave men and women who protect it.

Day 5: Conservation Camps
Engaging local communities is critical to long-term conservation. Celebrate the individuals who
are committed to ensuring young people understand and appreciate their living natural heritage.
Your gift will allow us to host conservation lessons which teach the importance of wildlife, the relationship between people and nature as well as ecosystem conservation for young people in Kenya, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. The impact is far reaching, influencing a future generation of conservationists.

Day 6: Human Wildlife Conflict Mitigation
Learning to live together is key to conservation. The Great Plains Foundation funds multiple
projects aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflicts in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Working
alongside local communities and wildlife experts, these important programs find the balance where
humans and wildlife can coexist peacefully.

Day 8: Great Plains Academy
The future is bright to students of the Great Plains Academy in Botswana. Despite the disruptions
from the global pandemic, supporters from around the world helped fund this critical training and
skills center in Seronga, Botswana. Focusing on providing skills courses and training for the region,
the Great Plains Academy has big plans for the future and high aspirations for all its students.
A gift of $1,500 helps pay for the costs of a hosting job training and vocational courses at the Great Plains Academy in Botswana.

Few activities breakdown barriers and encourage collaboration like sports. The Great Plains
Foundation’s Conservation Goals program works with local communities and professional athletes
to build bridges and engage in conservation dialogue through sports.

one that is in balance. Through the Conservation Roots initiative, The Great Plains Foundation is
replanting indigenous trees and restoring balance to the environment.

ABOUT DERECK & BEVERLY
Dereck and Beverly Joubert are award-winning filmmakers, conservationists, and National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence, who have been filming, researching and exploring Africa for over 30 years.
Through their media company "Wildlife Films", they have made blue chip productions for National Geographic, all of which focus on Africa's wildlife, with strong conservation messages at their core. The Jouberts also co-founded the Big Cats Initiative with National Geographic, as an emergency initiative to slow the rapid decline of big cats around the world.
The Joubert's have received international recognition for their films and conservation work. Such accolades include 8 Emmy's, a Peabody, a Wildscreen Panda & Outstanding Achievement Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award to name but a few.
Yet their greatest rewards have not come in the form of trophies that can sit on their shelves, but in their conservation successes, saving the wildlife they love and the wilderness which has become their home.
